Tax Advisory Group

The tax team works closely with the Tax Advisory Group (TAG) to make submissions on most government tax proposals. These include discussion documents and bills before Parliament involving Inland Revenue, Treasury and central government. The TAG also provides advice to government on tax issues if requested.

Committee members are appointed for their work experience at the partner level or equivalent. The committee represents accountants from across the profession — from large firms, small practices, consultancy and academia.

The TAG aims to:

  • be the most influential stakeholder in New Zealand tax matters
  • get the best outcomes for the public on tax law and policy
  • achieve tax laws and practices that are effective, efficient and fair.

The committee's main concern is tax efficiency. This includes the cost of tax compliance and the economic costs of business decision making being distorted by tax structure.
