The recent two day Forensic Conference run by Auckland Branch attracted more than 120 attendees and included an extensive speaker programme boasting 25 international and local experts in the fields of fraud and forensics. The issues covered by Simon McArley from the Serious Fraud Office and Tony Molloy, QC resulted in coverage by the Sunday Star-Times in their 22 May edition. Read the articles.
International speaker Dr Michael Levi, Professor of Criminology at Cardiff University discussed why people commit fraud and links to the financial crisis, while Matthew O’Donnell, Director from Ernst & Young, Sydney covered interview techniques and the power of body language.
Presentations from notable New Zealand industry leaders Fran O’Sullivan, Dr Anna Sandiford, Simon Moore SC and Sean Hughes from the newly established FMA were just a few of the programme highlights. You can view Tony Molloy’s conference paper Trust busting.
The conference was the result of collaborative efforts from Auckland members involved in the fields of fraud, forensics and forensic accounting and NZICA’s Auckland Branch staff.
With overwhelmingly positive feedback varying from “A well run professional conference that provided a mix of theoretical discussion and practical pointers” to “An excellent gathering which should be repeated every two years” it appears that “the collaborative formula” worked well!
“We wanted to provide a high-quality, informative, thought-provoking and topical conference experience for attendees and this goal was definitely achieved – the team work paid off,” said Lee Edmands, Auckland Branch SIG and Communications Coordinator.
