Information for students
Tertiary students
If you’re already a tertiary student and studying to become a Chartered Accountant, we understand you will be impacted by these changes and we are working to minimise any disruption caused by the move to the new Program in 2013.
For further information about the academic requirements please refer to your tertiary institution's academic schedule.
The documents below are designed to help tertiary students transition to the new Chartered Accountants Program:
A guide for tertiary students - with NZICA accounting can take you anywhere (PDF, 9.8MB)

Secondary students
If you decide to become a Chartered Accountant in the future, after your tertiary study you will complete the new Chartered Accountants Program. The time it takes you to become fully qualified will be shorter because under the new requirements you will only need to complete a three year degree (provided you cover all of the prescribed topics). This means you will spend less time at university and start earning in your career of choice sooner. You can however, still undertake further study if you prefer.
You will have access to cutting edge, high quality learning resources and content while continuing to enjoy preferential demand for your designation from top employers.
