Chartered Accountants Program FAQs
Below are answers to some frequently asked questions about the Chartered Accountants Program that our team have been fielding. If you still have questions about the Program, please don't hesitate contact us at customer@nzica.com or 0800 4NZICA.
Q: How is the new program going to affect me?
A: This will depend on your individual circumstances. Choose the user group that best represents your situation from the Chartered Accountants landing page to find out more.
Q: Can I do a 3 year degree before the new Program takes effect?
A: You can complete a 3 year degree from the end of 2011, provided that you have met the academic requirements outlined in the academic schedule for the tertiary institution at which you're studying.
Q: Can I transition from my existing 4 year program to the 3 year program? If no, why? If yes, how?
A: You can complete a 3 year degree from the end of 2011, provided that you have met the academic requirements outlined in the transitional document. But you will then need to complete the new five module Chartered Accountants Program.
Q: Should I get an assessment by the NZICA team to confirm I’ve meet the requirements for the new Program with just a three year degree?
A: We hope that the information we have provided online will give you the details you need to assess if you have fulfilled the requirements. An academic assessment can be completed after your degree conferral.
Q: What papers do I need to take?
A: Please refer to the academic schedule for the tertiary institution at which you are studying.
Q: What is the difference between ACA and CA?
A: Under the new arrangements ACAs and CAs will complete the same degree, however CAs will go on to complete the Program whereas ACAs will complete the Foundations programme as at present. Both will need to complete the practical experience requirements which, for the ACA College, are shorter and to a lower level of competence.
Q: Have any of the existing pre-requisites been changed as a result of the move to the new Program?
A: Yes. Students must still complete their practical experience but NZICA will no longer require the practical experience prerequisite of one year GPE before Foundations.
Q: For how long will PAS/PCE be offered?
A: We intend to offer PAS/PCE until 2015.
Q: Will PAS run overseas until 2015?
A: Yes, provided the minimum enrolment numbers are met.
