PAS/PCE

The Professional Accounting School/Professional Competence Examination (PAS/PCE) follows Foundations and is a requirement for membership of the CA College. The following information is intended for those planning to sit the Professional Accounting School/Professional Competence Examination (PAS/PCE) in 2012.

PAS is a part-time self-study programme structured around six two-day workshops. PAS starts each year in February and is completed over a seven-month period.

PCE is a case-study based examination that is sat in October, following the completion of all PAS workshops.

Why is PAS/PCE required for membership?

Successful completion of PAS/PCE ensures that Chartered Accountant members have the required potential to develop the appropriate range and level of competencies expected of the profession. Newly admitted members not only require the technical knowledge gained from tertiary study and professional experience, but they must also develop and demonstrate other competencies, such as the ability to:

  • identify and solve business problems
  • communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • demonstrate ethical behaviour
  • apply critical thinking
  • access, analyse and synthesise information
  • work effectively in a team and, when required, take a leadership role
  • integrate knowledge across the accounting sub-disciplines and a range of other business disciplines
  • maintain currency of technical skills.
