National tribunals, committees and advisory groups
We have a number of tribunals, committees and advisory groups undertaking specific functions to contribute to the achievement of our strategic and business plans. These group members, all volunteers, provide technical expertise in specific areas or representation of member views and interests across particular sectors. Each group is comprised of NZICA members and in a few cases non members to provide an external perspective or to bring specific expertise.

The new group structure arose as a result of the Fit for the Future II review carried out during 2010. This review:
- identified the appropriate range of committees and boards required to meet strategic and business planning objectives
- identified suitable channels for representation and engagement with NZICA members
- ensured the right resources and processes were in place to effectively and efficiently operate volunteer committees and boards.
Under this structure, committee and board activities are aligned with our strategy, clarity is provided around the roles, mandates, authorities and operating processes for each body, each body has clear reporting and accountability requirements as appropriate, and opportunities for member engagement and input are improved. The new structure also ensures that membership funds are more efficiently and effectively utilised in these areas and that there is a better linkage between member views and NZICA’s direction.
Governing rules and legislation
Our national tribunals, committees and advisory groups are prescribed in NZICA’s Rules (Section 11, Appendix VI), and in the case of the conduct bodies, the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants Act 1996. All national bodies report to the NZICA Board.
Membership and appointments
Membership of our national bodies offer members the opportunity to be involved in technical and representation activities, as well as increasing professional knowledge and networks, contributing to their professional body.
The appointment process for all national bodies commences in September each year. The appointments process is promoted to members through our regular communication channels. Members may apply directly to us to become an advisory group member. In addition, NZICA management, Council and NZICA offices identify potential candidates for appointment through their linkages and networks with members. The Nominations Committee of the Board considers all candidates and recommends appointments to the Board. Successful candidates will be advised prior to the end of the calendar year with their terms to commence from the following January. Terms are generally set for one to three years.
Local Leadership Teams and special interest groups
Additional committees and special interest groups are also in place at NZICA office level. Details of these can be found in the NZICA network pages of the website.
